A couple of years ago I had a problem with the dongle update file, so I contacted support because I was in the middle of a job, asking if waiting for a fix for avd file, should I change my activation to software.

The guy from Avid support told me to use AMC in trial mode for the time needed to generate a correct avd, and absolutely not activate by software, because this will start a license conversion from dongle to software, and I would not be able to go back to dongle because will be deactivated.

There was a time period a few years ago (forgive me I don't remember exactly when) where the dongles themselves were transitioned to be handled differently. After that, newer dongle blasts (dongle updates) included only MC on them, and all of the options (Symphony, ScriptSync, etc) were instead transitioned to being handled by Application Manager, and eventually by Avid Link. This was answering users who were asking for this, because they wanted to have the option of what they wanted activated on various job sites.

Today, when dongles are updated, they are essentially the same as our software perpetual licenses. They are really just software perpetual licenses which are on a USB stick. I've been running a newer Windows dongle system, as well as three sofware perpetual systems, and all of them activate and run the same -- without interruptions.

Personally I like the perpetual ones better because I had a dongle die on me last year and it took nearly a month to get a new one. Mmmmm.... I blasted my dongle for the last time on 20/08/2021, not so much time ago, and it contains AMC and Symphony option. Don't think it's necessary to update actually, cause it correctly states that contract expires on march 2023.

I understand what you say about other users requests, but in my opinion to have main sw and options activated on a dongle is the quaick and easy way to move from a machine to another, and, if possible, I'd like to have complete dongle activation in the future.

Nothing visible is changed with Link, everytime I boot PC where AMC/link are installed, Link activate automatically my license, even if a dongle is connected. As before after boot, AMC is sw licensed, Symphony is dongle licensed,

Dongle adapter still working fine in Monterey, even if, as in the Windows version of the updated Avid Link, I need to keep Link disconnected to avoid conflict between AMC/Symphony fully activated by dongle, and only AMC activated by cloud.

I just went through this scenario during a new system build out. I used a dongle blasted mid 2022 and that worked perfectly for 2022.4. I installed MC 2022.12 on a virgin Dell Precision 3660 Tower and blasted that dongle inside AvidLink for the latest perpetual service contract.

AvidLink showed MC & Symph crossgrade as being dongle activated, the dongle details showed the same... BUT... every time I opened MC 2022.12 the app open splashscreen showed "License type: Software (node locked)" with no options enabled. Also, within MC, the "About" showed the same results.
